Foxconn and OpenAI Partner on AI Hardware for Data Centers
Foxconn and OpenAI are launching a new collaboration aimed at designing and engineering data center hardware tailored for large-scale artificial intelligence systems.
The partnership will focus on racks, components, and supporting infrastructure that meet the rapidly expanding compute demands of advanced models. While the agreement does not include purchase guarantees, OpenAI will be able to evaluate the systems early and has the option to buy them.
The move gives Foxconn deeper insight into the needs of leading AI firms as it broadens its role beyond manufacturing and taps into surging demand for data center capacity. For OpenAI, the partnership builds on its growing hardware ambitions, including earlier work with Broadcom on custom chip development.
OpenAI has outlined long-term plans to invest heavily in global compute resources, targeting tens of gigawatts of capacity. Foxconn will manufacture the new components in the United States, strengthening supply chains and reducing exposure to future trade barriers.
