Jeff Bezos Takes Co-CEO Role at AI Venture Project Prometheus: NYT
Jeff Bezos will step into an operational leadership role at Project Prometheus, a new AI startup focused on engineering and manufacturing applications for sectors ranging from computing to aerospace, the New York Times reported Monday. The company has raised more than US$6 billion, giving it one of the largest funding pools for any early-stage AI effort.
Bezos has not held a formal executive role since leaving Amazon’s top job in 2021. His involvement signals a deeper push into a competitive AI market now defined by both large technology companies and smaller firms chasing specialized opportunities.
He will lead the company alongside Vik Bajaj, a scientist known for his work at Google’s X lab. The startup has already hired close to one hundred employees, including researchers from major AI labs such as OpenAI, DeepMind and Meta, as it builds systems aimed at solving complex technical and industrial problems.
